This Tom Morris driver has a strong name stamp, original golden blonde finish, 45" shaft, and sheepskin grip. The shaft is stamped Slazenger. Given that this club does not show much use and the whipping appears original and the neck joint is exactly as it should be, one is left to wonder why there is a Slazenger shaft on such a clean Tom Morris head.
By 1890, Slazenger was more than just a sporting goods store in the UK. The company also manufactured sporting equipment including golf clubs. This club was most likely wholesaled to Slazenger as a head only, a common practice, and they shafted and sold the club as part of their sporting goods retail operation. Of course it could have been sold to Slazenger as a finished club, shaft stamp and all. As it remains today, this is a great club. Love the 45" extra long shaft.
