1924 U.S. Amateur Contestant
Pin
On September 27,
1924, a 22 year old Bobby Jones recorded his second Major Championship at the
1924 U.S. Amateur, held at Merion. This would not be the only time Bobby
Jones would conquer the famed Merion course, as he also won the 1930 Amateur
there on his way to the Grand Slam.
The word "rare"
is commonly used when describing pieces of golf memorabilia. But presented
here is an item that truly fits the bill. Only a few items from the 1924
U.S. Amateur still survive. In fact, according to GilChrist's Guide to
Golf Collectibles (2005), no badges or tickets from the 1924 U.S. Amateur
are known to exist. Up for auction here is an item that's even more
spectacular than a ticket or badge. This is an actual Contestant's pin
from the 1924 U.S. Amateur. Contestant's pins from Major Championships
have long been sought after by collectors, and we are proud to have the
opportunity to present what may be the finest one ever offered.
