1923 Copes Golf Strokes
Complete Set (32)
Presented here is a complete
1923 Copes Golf Strokes set. This set is one of the so-called "Big 3" of
golf card sets, along with the famous 1900 Copes and 1914 Marsuma sets.
The set features 32 cards of 5 different golfers: Harry Vardon, Abe Mitchell,
George Duncan, J.H. Taylor, and Ed Ray. and was produced to promote Kenilworth
cigarettes.
The rarity of this
set is extreme. As stated in PSA's Sports Market Report magazine (June
2006 issue), "[e]ven for advanced golf collectors, this set is rarely seen and
singles when offered for sale are usually in poor to good condition at best."
Also according to PSA's Sports Market Report, the 1923 Copes Golf Strokes set
has less total cards graded than both the 1900 Copes set and 1914 Marsuma set.
These cards have
meticulously been assembled into one of the rarest complete golf card sets in
existence. They're just begging to be graded by PSA. A look at the
PSA Set Registry will show that only 3 complete sets have ever been registered.
That means no matter how these cards are graded, they will automatically be one
of the coveted Top 5 "All-Time Finest" sets. This set is in great
condition and grades a solid excellent to excellent-near mint condition. You
will not see a nicer set offered for quite some time.
