1951 Masters Tournament
Presentation Box
Presented here is a rare piece of memorabilia from one of the most famous golf
tournaments of all-time - the 1951 Masters Tournament won by Ben Hogan.
This presentation box is inlaid with a participant's medal from that 1951
Masters. 1951 was also the first year that a medal was given to the
Masters Tournament Champion and Runner-Up. Those medals are strikingly
similar to the one presented here. A handful of these boxes have surfaced
in the last several years that belonged to people who played in that 1951
Tournament. Interestingly, this box is engraved "Mrs. Forest Norton," whom
obviously did not play in the 1951 Masters. Nor could she have been an
Augusta National member. While we don't know the identity of Mrs. Norton
or why one of these boxes would have been made for her, we do know that very few
of pieces of memorabilia exist from Ben Hogan's 1951 Masters Tournament victory,
and this is certainly one of the finest.
