Elusive Signed 1981 Donruss Golf Card
In 1981, Donruss released the first golf card set in 42 years. The set
became an instant hit with golf collectors. Immediately, people of all
ages were using these cards to obtain autographs of their favorite PGA Tour
golfers.
Presented here is by far the most difficult to obtain signed card from
that historic 1981 Donruss set - the elusive Jack Newton signed card.
Virtually every signed set in the world is missing this very card, which has
been authenticated by PSA/DNA. Why is this card so valuable for a golfer
that you likely haven't heard about in a quarter century? Well, on July
24, 1983, Newton had a near-fatal accident when he walked into the propeller of
a Cessna plane that he was about to board in New South Wales. Newton lost
his right arm and eye in the accident, and obviously never played competitive
golf again. Since his golf days, Newton has never lived in the United
States and does not attend U.S. golf functions. For those reasons, this
very card is the rare signed 1981 Donruss Jack Newton that likely completes many
golf card collections out there.
