Course-Used Flag from
Chicago Golf Club
Actual, course-used golf flags have been dramatically increasing in popularity
and value in recent years. This is especially true for courses routinely
ranked in the Top 100 by major golf publications. We are proud to offer in
this auction an impressive collection of course-used golf flags. This
collection took our consignor years to assemble, but these great flags are now
available to the highest bidder.
Presented here is a truly amazing and rare flag - an actual course-used flag
from Chicago Golf Club. Chicago Golf Club is the oldest 18-hole golf
course in the United States, and was one of the original 5 clubs that formed the
USGA in 1894. Shortly thereafter, Chicago Golf Club hosted the 1897 U.S.
Open. Among its notable tournaments and achievements, Chicago Golf Club is
well-known for hosting the 1900 U.S. Open, which was won by Harry Vardon.
The 1900 U.S. Open would be Vardon's only U.S. Open victory, as the difficulty
in travel during his day only allowed Vardon to compete in the tournament 3
times. One would think that with such a long history, more used flags
would exist from Chicago Golf Club. In truth, this is one of the most
elusive "Top 100" flags in existence, and this flag is certainly missing from
almost every golf flag collection. We've never had the privilege of
auctioning this flag before, and if you miss out on this auction, it's
impossible to say when we'll be so fortunate again. Flag shows as new, possible short stay on course. Comes with a letter from the golf course.
