Signatue of 1929 U.S. Amateur Champ
Harrison Johnston (Pebble Beach's First Major)
Most golfers cannot fathom a time in which Pebble Beach Golf Links was not a
household name and was not regarded as one of the best golf courses in the
world. But 43 years before it would host its first U.S. Open, little-known
Pebble Beach hosted its first Major Championship - the 1929 U.S. Amateur. Bobby
Jones was the twp-time defending U.S. Amateur champion and the prohibitive
favorite that year, but it wasn't to be. Instead, the tournament was won by
Harrison "Jim" Johnston.
Presented here is certainly the finest signature of the 1929
U.S. Amateur Champion in existence. The signature not only rates a 10 of 10, but
it also contains Harrison's own notes and comments, including a reference to
Pebble Beach and a great story about his most exciting moment in golf on the
reverse. This is a truly unique piece from the 1929 U.S. Amateur Champion,
Harrison "Jim" Johnston.
