Johnny Laidlay Handwritten Note from 1935

A truly significant early golf autograph. Johnny Laidlay won the 1889 and 1891 British Amateur. He also invented the overlap grip that over 90% of golfers reportedly use today, though the grip is often incorrectly credited to Harry Vardon. In the 2006 GilChrist's Guide to Golf Collectibles, an autograph of Laidlay, who died in 1940, is listed at $1,500.
