Jack Nicklaus' 1963 Masters Caddie Uniform
Important Description Update. See Below
Presented
here is a Masters item that we are asked about all of the time, but which we
have had extreme difficulty locating. Amazingly, our exhaustive search over the
past few years has turned up only 3 of these rare caddie uniforms, including the
one offered here. Allowing for the fact that a couple others may be out there,
that's still only a half-dozen or so in existence.
These vintage Masters caddie coveralls were used from 1958 to 1970. They were
re-used each year, meaning that this uniform was likely used for most, if not
all, of those Masters Tournaments. This particular uniform is #49 - meaning that
it was worn by the caddie of the 49th player to register each year. The uniform
remains in superb condition, and displays impressively.
Due to the exhaustive research of our own Bob Zafian, with
the assistance of noted golf historian Mark Emerson, we have been able to
successfully identify the players whose caddie wore this vintage caddie uniform
at the Masters Tournament. And the answer is nothing short of spectacular! In
addition to being "on the bag" for former Masters Champions Byron Nelson, Gary
Player and Doug Ford, this exact caddie uniform was worn by Jack Nicklaus'
caddie Willie Peterson when he won the 1963 Masters Tournament.
Simply put, this new discovery means that this caddie uniform is the most
significant piece of memorabilia ever offered from Jack Nicklaus 1963 Masters
Tournament victory.
Check out this complete list of players whose caddie wore this uniform, as well
as the photos we have added of Nicklaus and Player with this hand-sewn caddie
uniform in the background.
