The Ryder Cup
Gene Sarazen's Personal USGA Champions
Badge
The Gene Sarazen Estate
We are very privileged to have the opportunity to auction off numerous items
from the Gene Sarazen Estate. Each of these items comes from the personal
collection of the late Gene Sarazen. This is the first time that any of the
items have been offered for sale.
You've seen the USGA Contestant's
Badges that are produced for U.S. Open players each year, but offered here is
the most coveted USGA Badge of the all - the USGA Champion's Badge. These badges
are only produced for Champions of USGA Major Championships. In the past decade,
a couple examples from women golfers and lesser named Champs have surfaced, but
offered here is certainly the finest we've seen. Gene Sarazen, of course, won
both the 1922 and 1932 U.S. Opens, entitling him to the elite status that this
Champion's Badge conveys. This badge comes directly from the Gene Sarazen
Estate, and comes with a letter of provenance from renowned collector Mark
Emerson, who is assisting the Estate with the proper disposition of Mr.
Sarazen's personal items.
