The Ryder Cup
Actual Old Course at St. Andrews
Bronze Tee Marker
We are
frequently contacted by collectors looking something - anything - relating to
the Old Course at St. Andrews. Unfortunately, when it comes to the Home of Golf,
virtually no interesting pieces of memorabilia exist. While Augusta has its
badges and flags and jackets and scorecards and the like, the Old Course at St.
Andrews offers virtually nothing to collectors. In fact, a search of our
archives reveals only a single piece of Old Course memorabilia not directly
related to the Open Championship.
The presented item
is a truly rare, actual piece of the Old Course at St. Andrews. For the first
time in the course's multi-century history, the St. Andrews Links Trust
installed yardage markers on the Old Course in the 1980's. When the course was
finally lengthened in 2005, those yardage markers had to be replaced. Jack
Nicklaus wanted the 18th hole marker, and our consignor (a very well known
television personality) obtained many of the remaining bronze markers. After
much begging and pleading, he has finally agreed to allow us to sell this
stunning colored bronze tee marker from the 2nd hole.
This original 2nd hole tee marker comes with a letter of authenticity from the
St. Andrews Links Trust. Also, the quality of the frame and tartan background
cannot be understated - it is truly spectacular!
