The Ryder Cup
Wonderful 1926 JH Taylor Signed Wire Photo
This is a
spectacular signed 8 x 10 photo of one of the greatest golfers of all-time, J.H.
Taylor.
The Great
Triumvirate, in a golfing context, refers to the three leading British golfers
of the late 19th and early 20th centuries: Harry Vardon, John Henry Taylor, and
James Braid. The trio combined to win The Open Championship 16 times in the 21
tournaments held between 1894 and 1914; Vardon won six times with Braid and
Taylor winning five apiece. In the five tournaments in this span the triumvirate
did not win, one or more of them finished runner-up.
JH Taylor is pictured in
this photo with early golf stars Ted Ray, Alex Herd, Leslie Taylor and W.E.
Murray participating in the News of the World Final held at the Royal-Mid Surrey
golf Club on 9/22/26, the course where he was employed from 1899 until his
retirement in 1946.
The writing on the
reverse of this original photo is Taylor's own handwriting. It contains Taylor's
own signature, as well as Taylor's handwritten notes surrounding the subject
matter of this great Central Press wire photo.
