Al Geiberger's Masters Par 3 Contest Trophy -

Champions Dinner Plates

The "Mr. 59" Al Geiberger Collection

In this auction, we have the extreme pleasure of offering virtually the entire collection of "Mr. 59" Al Geiberger. Ryan and Bob recently flew out to Palm Springs to shoot Mr. Geiberger and his collection for the Pilot episode of a new reality TV show based on Green Jacket Auctions. While we were there, Al Geiberger decided that rather than continuing to keep his collection packed away in a California storage facility, he felt that it was his duty to share his memorabilia with the world. Nothing was off limits to Green Jacket Auctions. We came home with some of the most historic pieces of golf memorabilia that we have ever offered, including Al Geiberger's Wannamaker Trophy and his actual golf clubs from the 59 Round. We hope that you enjoy viewing - and bidding on - the "Mr. 59" Al Geiberger collection.

Masters Par 3 Contest Hole-in-One Trophy Plates

A hole in one is surely the highlight of any golfer's career. For Al Geiberger, his most memorable hole in one came in front of thousands of spectator's in the famous Masters Tournament Par 3 Contest, which is held on the Wednesday of Masters Week each year. To commemorate his accomplishment, The Masters Tournament awarded Al Geiberger the rare Masters Champions' Dinner Plates. Not to be confused with the more common Lenox Augusta National plates that were issued to members from 1992 to 1997, these gorgeous Wedgewood plates were produced in approximately the late 1950's. They were used as Par 3 Tournament Prizes in the 1960's and as the actual plates used for dinner at the famed Masters Champions' Dinner each year (see photo below of the 1968 Champions' Dinner, from page 34 of the 1973 book The Masters: Profile of a Tournament). In previous sales, even single plates generally fetch $3,000-$4,000 at auction.

Offered here are a pair of those original plates that were awarded to Al Geiberger for his Par 3 Contest hole in one. More research will need to be done to determine the exact year that Geiberger recorded the hole in one, as he does not recall the exact date. This pair of plates comes with a letter of authenticity from Al Geiberger himself.
