Iconic 1931 Alister MacKenzie
at Cypress Point Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
Offered here is a truly iconic
original photograph of the great course designer Alister MacKenzie admiring his
work at famed Cypress Point. In this early image, MacKenzie can be seen sitting
in the brush - golf club in hand - watching 2 golfers on the green ahead. This
incredible photograph is dated by the news service NEA August 29, 1931, so the
photo itself was taken at some point before then. The photo was apparently taken
by a local photographer who stamped the photograph "J.P. Graham, Del Monte,
Calif." (The front 9 at Cypress Point actually enters the Del Monte forest).
This large 8"x10" original photograph
is nothing short of exceptional, with only some minor condition issues at the
corners to note.
