1926 Bobby Jones Wire Photo

American Hero Returns Home

& Hoisted On Shoulders of Fans

As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.

This historic 1926 photograph depicts Bobby Jones receiving a hero's welcome as he returns to Atlanta from winning the 1930 British Open. Jones, who also won the 1926 U.S. Open, is greeted at the Atlanta train station by hundreds of adoring fans, who promptly place the great Champion on their shoulders and salute his victory across the pond.

This 8"x10" silver gelatin photo is in very nice condition with one corner chip. Reverse has a full paper caption and stamps from Acme and NEA.
