1931 Photo of Bobby Jones
Planning Augusta National
w/ Engineer on Course Grounds
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
Offered here is an original 1931
photo of Bobby Jones on the future site of Augusta National Golf Club. Jones can
be seen in this photo with his Engineer Wendell P. Miller looking over the
blueprints and examining the future course grounds. While there are plenty of
early Augusta National images in the hobby, there are not many of the course
grounds and the construction of the now-legendary venue.
This large 8"x10" photo shows Bobby Jones and Miller sitting on a fallen tree
while Jones enthusiastically points something out to the Engineer. This
photograph also serves as proof of how involved Jones was with this course
construction. Image is large and, with the exception of one corner chip, it is a
beauty. Reverse has a long and detailed paper caption and a stamp dated 1931
(which, due to a handwritten "2", might have intended to be 1932 and they just
forgot to change the stamp after the new year).
