Ben Hogan
1927 Tommy Armour
U.S. Open (Oakmont) Wire Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
This is an original 1927 photograph
of the legendary Tommy Armour from the 1927 U.S. Open. The caption affixed to
the photo's reverse dates this photograph to the conclusion of the 4th round of
the '27 Open, when Tommy Armour and Harry Cooper were tied after 72 holes.
Armour would go on to defeat Cooper and take the U.S. Open title the following
day after an 18 hole playoff. This original 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" photograph
demonstrates one of the most perfect swings in the history of the game!
Beautiful image with a tiny crease and a super small spot of wear on the left
border. Reverse has a full paper caption and stamps from Acme and NEA. NEA stamp
from 1929, which is likely when the photo was archived.
