Horton Smith

1930 U.S. Open Wire Photo

As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.

This original photograph depicts Horton Smith posing for a photo at the 1930 U.S. Open. The young Horton Smith would end up finishing 3rd at the 1930 U.S. Open, which was won by his friend Bobby Jones en route to the Grand Slam.

This 6"x8" photo is almost perfect, and grades a 9.5/10. Reverse has a full paper caption and stamps from Acme and NEA.
