1934 Horton Smith
Wins the First Masters Tournament
Wire Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
Offered here is surely one of
the most significant photographs in Masters Tournament history. This is an
original photograph of Horton Smith at the first Masters Tournament in 1934. Due
to being the first-ever Masters Champion, Horton Smith has developed a cult
following among golf collectors. And after Horton Smith's Green Jacket shattered
all golf memorabilia records in our Summer Golf Auction, the allure of Horton
Smith has escalated dramatically.
This 6"x8" image depicts Horton Smith
putting on Friday of the 1934 Masters Tournament. Condition is nice with one
small corner crease and some light crazing. Reverse has a full paper caption and
stamps from Acme and NEA.
