Significant Dwight Eisenhower Letter
to Architect of Mamie's Cabin
This is an Historically significant letter from President Dwight Eisenhower to
the man who designed Mamie's Cabin at Augusta National Golf Club.
Eisenhower penned this
letter on White House stationary immediately upon return to Washington after his
first-ever stay in Mamie's Cabin. Mamie's Cabin (or the Eisenhower Cabin or
Ike's Cabin, as it has been sometimes called) was built next to the 10th hole at
Augusta National while Eisenhower was President of the United States in 1953. It
gave the President a special place to stay during his visit, and even included a
basement, which became Secret Service headquarters in Augusta during Ike's
visits.
This letter comes from
the personal collection of the late Lowrey Stulb. Stulb cherished his keepsakes
from the President, as is evidenced by the exceptional condition of this 61 year
old letter. Also, quite amazingly, the letter comes with its original White
House envelope as well.
Here is a great article from the
Augusta Chronicle regarding Lowrey Stulb's designing of Mamie's Cabin: http://tinyurl.com/GreenJacketStulb
