Scarce 1921 Photo Featuring Bobby Jones
on his 1st Trip to Europe
Offered here is a scarce 1921 photograph of Bobby Jones during his first trip overseas - when he travelled to Europe for the very first time to play in the British Amateur. Just before the 1921 British Amateur started, a group of Americans participated in a match against some top British golfers at Hoylake. According to the wire service tag on the reverse, the American team played well and swept that day's foursomes. This match apparently pitted an American Team of Bobby Jones, Francis Ouimet, Chick Evans and others against their British counterparts at Hoylake. The American team would go on to crush their opponents by a score of 9-3, concluding the day before the British Amateur began. Original photographs of Bobby Jones from 1921 are exceedingly rare, and this is an excellent example which we’ve never before seen. The photo measures 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" and, as you can see, is a beauty!
