Ben Hogan
1935 Bobby Jones, Paul Runyon
& Olin Dutra Masters Wire Photo
At the 1935 Masters Tournament, Clifford Roberts asked
photographer Frank Christian to assemble the entire field and take a photograph
to commemorate the second-ever Masters Tournament. Little did anyone know at the
time that the 1935 Masters would soon become one of the most important golf
tournaments in history when Gene Sarazen recorded a late Sunday double eagle
that made the Masters Tournament the talk of the golf world and changed the
course of modern golf history forever. That entire group photo of the 1935
Masters field is one of the most important modern golf photographs in existence,
and is offered elsewhere in this auction as Lot #3.
This candid photograph of Bobby Jones alongside Paul Runyon and
Olin Dutra is a candid photograph taken just moments before that historic
entire-field photograph. This 6.5x8.5" photo depicts a smiling Bobby Jones as
the players start assembling for the group photo session.
