Marathon Deep Groove
Stop Mashie (Banned in 1921)
Deep-grooved
clubs gained in popularity throughout the early 1900's when players' noticed
improved play as a result of the groves. This was halted in 1921 and 1924
when the Royal & Ancient and the USGA, respectively, banned deep groove
faces. Presented here is an exceptional deep groove iron, which is very
deeply grooved and was certainly deemed illegal by the acts of golf's
governing bodies. Collectors have long taken a liking to banned, or illegal,
clubs, and this club is certainly a fine example. It's condition is very
nice. All clubhead stamps are perfectly legible, and the club appears to
contain its original grip.
