The Book of the Links: A Symposium on Golf ?
(1912 1st Ed.)
Offered here is a truly unique and groundbreaking golf book from the early 1900’s. The Book of the Links: A Symposium on Golf by Martin H.F. Sutton was thought by some to be the very first book on golf course management. Sutton came from the Sutton dynasty, which founded Sutton Seeds, and the book subsequently included various essays on The Construction of New Courses, The Formation and Maintenance of Putting Greens and Teeing Grounds, Grasses and Grass Seed, Golf Architecture, Caddies, and everyone’s favorite topic, The Manuring of Golf Greens and Courses! These various topics were penned by not only Sutton, but also contributing authors such as Bernard Darwin, George Riddell, etc.
This is a much sought-after 1912 1st Edition copy and is listed in Gilchrist’s Guide to Golf Collectibles (2004) at $1,050. This example is in good condition with a slight small split at front cover and moderate foxing and edge wear.
