Scarce 2nd Edition
Golfer's Manual, 1862
This is among the scarcest golf books you will ever encounter – the scarce 2nd edition of Golfer’s Manual, 1862. As stated by legendary golf book collector Joseph Murdoch “[a] book of considerable importance in that it was the first book of prose written on golf and generally recognized as the first book of golf instruction...Both…[the] second and third [editions] are considerably rarer than the first.
When this exact book was offered by book dealer PBA Galleries almost a decade ago, they stated that only one other known copy had been offered at auction in the prior 25 years (dating back to 1981). And since that time, no other copies are known to have surfaced.
Condition: Spine ends a bit rubbed and chipped, ½" tear to head, light rubbing; scattered pencil and ink marks and notes on interior; still a very good copy.
