Circa 1860s Carrick Rut Iron
Offered here is a circa 1860s-70s F&A Carrick rut iron. But not just any Carrick club, this is an example of the Carricks' early work - when they stamped their clubs "Carrick" and not "F&A Carrick / Musselburgh". Carrick irons are also famous for the fact that they were the first to include a trademark, and the offered club contains a bold trademark "X". According to The Clubmaker's Art by Jeff Ellis, Carrick clubs, as well as John Gray clubs, "are now regarded by collectors...as the best example of hand-forged work."
This is an early "Carrick" rut iron with an oval shaped hosel.
