Drives and Puts
by Walter Camp & Lilian Brooks
Offered here is a rare 1899 First Edition of "Drives and Puts" by Walter Camp and Lilian Brooks. This book has one of the most attractive covers in the golf library. It is also unusual in that the word “putt” is spelled “put”. This is odd due to the fact that the spelling of the term “putt” had been firmly established by 1899. Why they chose to spell it “Puts” remains a mystery.
The co-author of the book, Walter Camp is a famous American sportsman, generally known as the father of American football. The book is a collection of short stories about golf. The book presents in good condition with separation at the end paper and a spine that is slightly loose. This book is listed in the Gilchrist's Guide to Golf Collectibles at $750.
