Early Bowdoin College Golf Themed Stein

Offered here is a vintage stoneware stein with pewter or metal hinged lid. Though the piece is not marked, it is believed to be produced by Handel, and a very similar example is depicted in the well-regarded book, Decorative Golf Collectibles. According to Decorative Golf Collectibles, Handel was founded in Meriden, Connecticut in 1885; was incorporated in 1903; and continued operating until 1936. This 5" tall stein depicts a golfer and is also adorned with the emblem of Bowdoin College in Maine, one of the oldest colleges in the United States.
