1893 St. Andrews Royal Medal
Samuel "Mure" Fergusson was one of St Andrews' great amateur golfers of the late 19th century. He is well-known for his matches with Freddie Tait, and for finishing runner-up in the British Amateur twice; but Fergusson is best known for recording a record 79 on the Old Course at St Andrews in 1893 - the first amateur to do so. That record 79 won Fergusson the coveted Royal Medal.
Offered here is the original 1893 "Royal Medal" awarded to Fergusson. This gold medal measures 1.5" x 1". Comes with its original jewelry case from Mappin & Webb, Ltd., Oxford St., London.
