Original 1949 North British Rubber Company Calendar, which measures 16" x 14 1/2". This 1949 advertising calendar for the North British Rubber Company is a unique piece commemorating an important golf first.

The calendar features a painting by listed artist J. G. Rennie.  The scene depicts golfers and spectators at the July 1948 North British Rubber Sponsored tournament at the Oakdale Golf Club in Harrogate, England.

What makes this calendar and scene so special is that it shows the purported first grandstand built to watch a golf tournament.  The grandstand is visible in the upper left corner of the painting.  It allowed  “some 400 spectators to view play over half a dozen holes.”   The description on the back of the calendar goes on to say “Though grandstand golf may not become a permanent feature, there is little doubt that on suitable occasions it can fulfill a useful function.”
