Offered here is an exquisite circa 1890s photographic print of the legendary John Ball. Simply put, John Ball dominated golf in Great Britain during his career. His amateur career could only be compared to that of Bobby Jones, as the two amateurs have no equals. Despite the fact that there were only 2 Major Championships per year in Ball's day (and he often skipped the Open Championship), Ball somehow amassed 9 Major Championship victories. He sent shockwaves through the birthplace of golf, Scotland, when he became the first Brit to become Champion Golfer of the Year in winning the Open Championship in 1890. In the British Amateur, he won 8 times.
This is an absolutely stunning original photographic print by Elliot & Fry. This circa 1890s original measures 7 1/4" x 11 1/2". Matted and framed (without glass) to an overall size of 11 1/4" x 15". Excellent condition.
