Offered here is far and away the most significant golf ball mold and press we've ever offered. Most molds and presses come from well into the 1880s and 90s. But offered here is one of the earliest you will ever see. This is a 7 1/2" tall, 7 pound, single-use press with custom gutty golf ball mold to produce a ball of 27 1/2 dwt (pennyweight). Even more impressively, the press and mold contain great stamping with the original Scottish patent numbers. The patent number on the press (#27878) is from approximately 1849 and the patent number on the mold (11927) is approximately from 1866. This extraordinarily rare piece is marked John White & Co. of Edinburgh.
