Offered here is an original envelope addressed to the Secretary of the Prestwick Golf Club, and is postmarked June of 1868. Documents with golf content from the era are exceedingly scarce, and this presented example is in exceptional condition. It's certainly fun to wonder what may've been addressed to Prestwick's Secretary Harry Hart. Tom Morris, Sr. left Prestwick for his triumphant return to St Andrews three years prior, though Old Tom came back to Prestwick to win the 1867 Open Championship. Just a couple months after this letter was sent to Prestwick, a 17 year old named Young Tom Morris burst onto the scene for good by winning the 1868 Open at Prestwick.
