For several years now, we have had a personal goal of tracking down an Open Championship gold medal. The gold medal was introduced in 1872, as the Claret Jug was not yet ready to be presented for the first time. That tradition continues to this day, with the gold medal awarded to the Champion Golfer of the Year to keep, and the Claret Jug for one year and to be returned at the following year's Open Championship. Few Open Championship gold medals have ever reached the collecting market. And many of the ones that did have quietly been purchased and will likely never be offered for sale again.

Offered here for the very first time is Roberto de Vicenzo's 1967 Open Championship gold medal. De Vicenzo's victory at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) was two strokes over 2nd place finisher Jack Nicklaus. 1 11/16" diameter, 9k gold.
