The 1962 US Open at Oakmont was when the world was officially put on notice about the young Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus had yet to win a PGA Tournament when he arrived at the '62 US Open at famed Oakmont Country Club. At the conclusion of 72 holes, Nicklaus was tied with Arnold Palmer - forcing an 18 hole playoff. Despite a crowd that heavily favored Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus defeated Palmer to capture his first PGA Tour victory and first Major Championship. And the rest, as they say, is history...
