When Bobby Jones retired from competitive golf in 1930, it was time to cash in. Always an amateur, Jones could not profit from the game of golf or his extreme fame until the final putt dropped on his 1930 Grand Slam year. Perhaps Jones' biggest payday was from Warner Bros., which filmed a series of 12 "shorts" with Bobby Jones.
This original 1931 photograph depicts Bobby Jones arriving in Hollywood to begin filming with Warner Bros. At the train station to greet Bobby Jones was celebrated Warner Bros. director George Marshall, Los Angeles Mayor Porter, and the heads of the local Chambers of Commerce.
