The Kocsis family are golfing royalty, especially in the Midwest. Quite remarkably, three Kocsis brothers all played elite level golf, including in Major Championships. All three are also in the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.

Offered here is Emerick Kocsis' 1939 PGA Championship gold medal for having the low score of 138 in qualifying. Back in 1939, every player that qualified for the PGA Championship had to play 2 rounds stroke play to see who moved on to the match play portion to determine the PGA Champion. Emerick was co-medalist with Ben Hogan, Ky Lafoon, and Dutch Harrison. After reaching the match play portion, Kocsis made it to the quarterfinals where he lost to Byron Nelson. This 1" x 1 3/8" medal is marked 10k gold, weighs 13.1 grams and was made by Balfour.

This piece comes from the Estate of Chuck Kocsis
