This is a scarce original 1913 photograph of Francis Ouimet from his victory at the 1913 US Open at the Country Club at Brookline. Almost all photographs of Ouimet from his historic victory are later photos - reprinted and released at a later date. This is not the case with this photo, as it is actually stamped September 1913 on the reverse. An incredible find. The information on the back of this photo is extraordinary: new picture of Francis Ouimet the new National Open Golf Champion. Picture based on Brookline Links, where he won his title.
Only a handful of different photographs of Ouimet exist from the 1913 US Open. Though this image looks strikingly similar to the popular Underwood & Underwood photo of Ouimet during his follow-through (we sold a copy for $4,687 during our Winter 2013 Auction), this is an altogether new image of Ouimet at the 1913 US Open that we've never seen before.
This rare 5" x 7" photograph is authenticated and slabbed by PSA as Type III, which means it is a genuine 1st generation press photograph from 1913.
