Vintage center shafted Schenectady putter. The Schenectady quickly rose to fame after Walter Travis used it to win the 1903 US Amateur. He then followed up by shocking the world in winning the 1904 British Amateur. Some blame that shocking victory on the R&A banning center shafted putters soon thereafter. It was a rare departure from the uniform rules of the USGA and R&A. The putter continued to be allowed by the USGA.
The putter was then used by many other early stars of the game, including Jerome "Jerry" Travers. Offered here is a Jerry Travers signature model Schenectady putter. Nice Travers stamp, and bold Connecticut address on back of putter. 33 1/2". Original hickory shaft and leather grip.
