Adolph Weinman (1870-1952) is one of the greatest American sculptors. He's probably most famous for his design of the Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollar, though other examples of his work can be found at the Jefferson Memorial, Penn Station, and the US Supreme Court.
We believe that Weinman only created one golf piece in his life - the "Nude Golfer" in 1901. (He also created a clothed version of this statue). Offered here is an original "Nude Golfer" - 18" tall, bronze, and weighs 11 pounds. Case by Gorham Co. Foundry. A search of auction records shows a 2006 sale at $6,700 and a 2007 sale at $5,400. This original statue is signed by the artist, A.A. Weinman, on the base. It is also signed with the Roman numerals "MCMI," which is the date, 1901. There is another engraving that we cannot quite make out.
This piece is being offered today from the famed Ronnie Watts Collection
