Long before Bobby Jones became a household name in the United States, a previously unknown amateur sent shockwaves through the world and established golf's place in America for good. The 1913 U.S. Open was supposed to be a clash between two titans of golf - the legendary Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. For one week, however, a 20-year old American matched them shot for shot. At the end of four rounds, the unknown American boy (and his 10 year old caddie) was tied with two of the biggest names in golf. With the entire country seemingly holding its breath, Francis Ouimet played the round of his life in the 18-hole playoff and dominated Vardon and Ray to claim US Open victory. With his win, Ouimet became the first amateur to ever win the US Open, the youngest US Open winner, and tallied numerous other records.  However, his feat was more important and more lasting than those records, as it is widely considered the birth of modern golf.       

Here is a much-coveted 1932 Limited First Edition of Francis Ouimet’s book A Game of Golf.  To add even more value to this rare (Number 52 of 550 copies) book is the fact that it has been personally signed by the American golf pioneer. Ouimet passed away in 1967, and the rarity of his autographs is without question. The book’s condition is excellent. It’s the finest copy we’ve offered. Tight binding and a bold signature.
