Offered here is an excellent condition Vardon Flyer golf ball - with red paint dots over both poles.
The Vardon Flyer is one of the most important golf balls even produced. It was introduced in 1899 to great fanfare, as it was an improvement over other gutta percha balls of the day. It was also backed by the greatest golfer in the world, Harry Vardon. Spalding even sent Vardon on a tour of America to promote their new ball, where he used it to win the 1900 US Open. By all accounts, the Vardon Flyer was impressive. But it suffered from a major issue of timing, as Spalding and Vardon were unaware of what B.F. Goodrich was developing. The rubber wound ball was soon released, and essentially made the Vardon Flyer (and all other golf balls) obsolete overnight.
Though the Vardon Flyer was somewhat of a failure, it is nonetheless considered one of the cornerstone golf balls required for any serious collection. We've previously sold a near mint-mint Vardon Flyer for $6,900. Only the second Red Dot Vardon Flyer we've ever encountered.
This high grade red dot Vardon Flyer golf ball is in beautiful condition with 95%+ of its original paint.
