Offered here are 2 interesting putters with face inserts. The first is a 1912-1918 “Youd’s patent” lead face putter by Spalding. The second is a “Remson Patent” (applied for) putter, circa 1922. The Remson Patent putter has a distinct hump on its top line.
These putters originate from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and were featured in his book, The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 326; TCA 2, pp. 399-400). These clubs have not reached the collector market since their sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
