Offered here is a circa 1915-1920 Lewis Anderson patent “cork center” putter by Spalding. According to Jeff Ellis, "[i]n clubmaking, cork is a material normally only seen on grips. This club is the primary exception to that rule and has a cork center inside a brass head. The public perceived it as a gimmick club and it was not popular and therefore very rare to find today." 

This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and was featured in his books, The Golf Club (p. 102) and The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 323; TCA 2, pp. 395). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
