Offered here are two circa 1905 D. Murray center-shafted oblong head putters. These scarce center shafted putters were produced in Scotland before the R&A's 1910 ban on such clubs. According to Jeff Ellis, the clubs are "exact opposites of one another in the sense that the wooden head shape is upside down in comparison to the gun metal example." Ellis goes on to state that "only two of each oblong Murray putters are known." Very good condition.

These clubs originate from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and these exact club were featured in his books, The Golf Club (p.82) and The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 197; TCA 2, p. 232). These clubs have not reached the collector market since their sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
