Offered here is perhaps the finest piece of Arnold Palmer memorabilia to ever hit the auction block - Arnold Palmer's "Old Faithful" putter.

As a lover of golf history, it is pretty surreal to bring Old Faithful to auction. 

Old Faithful has an extraordinary history. Though it is a Tommy Armour IMG Silver Scot putter, because of all the alterations that he made to the putter, Arnold Palmer considered it of his own making. He would say it "was" or "used to be" an IMG - always indicating that the current iteration was of his own hand. This exact putter was the basis for what became the Wilson 8802 and Wilson "Designed by Arnold Palmer" putters. 

Arnold Palmer used this putter for many years, and likely in many Majors and victories. More research would need to be done to understand the full history of Old Faithful. But in the 1998 letter that accompanies this putter Arnold Palmer states that this is the putter that he gave to Tony Lema that Lema used to win the 1964 Open Championship! 

In the documents that accompany this piece is a quote from Arnold Palmer where he says that Old Faithful was not a single club, but 3 or 4 clubs that he would frequently rotate - even within the same tournament.

As game-used memorabilia skyrockets in value in the sports collecting world, and with our recent sale of the Tiger Slam irons for $5 million, collectors need to pay more attention to tournament-used clubs by the likes of Tiger, Jack, Arnie, and Hogan. We expect to see valuations on these items to rise dramatically in the coming years.
