Offered here is a circa 1904 Henry Patent center-shafted "Centro" driver. According to The Clubmaker's Art, this crescent-like design was intended to "reduce the torque on a miss-hit shot, encourage straighter hits, and handle tough lies." Overall very good condition.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 200; TCA 2, p. 236). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
