Offered here is a circa 1928 Marker Patent "AMPCO" metalwood spoon by The Ampco Golf Co. of Milwaukee. According to The Clubmaker's Art, the head of the Ampco Metalwood is made from "Dow metal," a magnesium metal developed by Dow Chemical Corporation. This "Dow metal" magnesium was advertised as being advantageous to using aluminum, including being a third lighter than aluminum. Overall very good condition.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his book The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 2, p. 352). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
