Offered here is a circa 1920s Saunders curvy sole spoon. According to Jeff Ellis, "Saunders explains in his patent that he designed his club so that the sole had 'two points of contact on the ground, but with main part of sole raised above the front and rear edges so that in plating the ball in a depressed lie, the whole sole does not strike the ground, thereby allowing a clean follow through." Ellis goes on to state that "this is the only known example."  

This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 2, p. 319). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
