The Legend is True...

For many years, we have heard a rumor. We all know the origin story - in 1999, Scotty Cameron made Tiger Woods' now legendary "gamer" by removing weight from the putter and adding some red paint to artistically conceal the holes that were just created. Those red dots (aka "cherry bombs") would change Scotty Cameron's life forever. And Tiger would go on to use this red dot Scotty Cameron off and on over the next 25 years, including to win his next 14 Major Championships. But rumor had it that Scotty Cameron didn't make just one red dot putter for Tiger back in 1999, but a few putters.

Now, for the first time, we are ready to declare that rumor to be true. But don't take our word for it. Accompanying this putter is a March 2000 letter from Scotty Cameron himself. In the letter, Scotty Cameron states that this putter "is one of only 5 putters at this time made to the exact specifications that Tiger and I agreed upon." Tiger himself had at least one of those 5 putters, his legendary gamer which at the time of this March 2000 letter Tiger had used to win the 1999 PGA Championship. Offered in this auction is one of the other 4 copies of that "Original 5".

Golden Age's Ryan Carey was interviewed in 2019 for a piece on the Golf Channel with Tiger, and Ryan valued Tiger's gamer at $3 million-$5 million (note from Ryan: I was low; it's worth way more than that now, probably $10 million+).

The origin story of Tiger Woods' gamer, and Scotty Cameron's legendary red dot Cherry Bombs, just got more interesting. And to the collecting world, the offered putter vaults to the upper echelon of modern golf collectibles. 

This putter is equipped with Tiger Woods' prefered blacked out PING grip - ready for Tiger himself to put this putter into play. 

Provenance: This putter was purchased from Scotty Cameron by Japanese Company Vox Golf in 1999. They then asked Scotty Cameron to write this Letter of Provenance in early 2000. 

Condition: Excellent condition. The original red paint from Scotty Cameron's 1999 experiment with red dots was notoriously flaky and would peel off easily, so this putter had a fresh application of red paint in recent years.
